Andro bodies condemn shooting incident

Imphal, May 20 2021:
Meira Paibi Apunba Lup Andro, All Andro Youth Clubs Association, The Esteem Scheduled Caste Students' Union of Andro and Andro village chief along with Andro villagers have strongly condemned the incident of May 16, wherein one S Abungo (18) of Andro was shot at and injured by another person identified as Mongjam Poireihanba of Yourabung at Nongmaiching Baruni sacred site.
In connection with the shooting incident, a meeting was held at the shed of All Andro Youth Clubs' Association on Thursday, during which Association's secretary Aseibam Nandakumar Meitei demanded that the police should take action as per the law against Poireihanba.
This gun culture of shooting anyone you like must stop; guns should not be given to those who do not know the responsibility of holding it.
If authorities concerned do not take action at the earliest, organisations in Andro will join hands to launch intense agitation, he cautioned.
Andro village chief Gandhar Meitei stated that on inquiry with village elders and villagers it came to light that S Abungo had ventured out in search of vegetables for his poor family.
Legal action must be taken against the culprit and punishment given as per law of the land.
Steps must also be taken to ensure that culprits do not get bail and roam around freely after being arrested, he demanded.
It may be mentioned here that on May 16, Mongjam Poireihanba had fired two shots, one of which passed through the right thigh of S Abungo.
