Imphal, December 19 2021:
Demanding prompt withdrawal of the move to privatise the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal, Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council (CPI/MSC) submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday through email.
The memorandum signed by CPI national executive member Dr Nara Singh and state secretary Laishram Sotinkumar stressed that the present land area of the airport was the prime paddy field of the peasantry and site of many temples of Hindu deities.
However, the peasantry and religious people concerned generously gave up the ownership of their land in national interest and for modernisation drive and subsequently had to suffer the disastrous displacement from their ancestral land which was the only means of their livelihood, it continued, while adding that the-compensation policies of the union government could not help the peasantry to return to their earlier normal life.
'After acquiring the airport land in such manner, the NDA regime in New Delhi, which has succumbed to neo-liberalism policies, is planning to handover the airport to the private parties to fatten the corporate capitalists, the memorandum contended.
The Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council vehemently condemned such anti-people and anti-national policies and demanded prompt withdrawal of privatisation of the lone airport of the state, the memorandum said.
CPI assistant secretary Joykumar, in a release informed that a copy of the memorandum was also submitted to chief minister N Biren, civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and minister of state of civil aviation general (retired) Dr VK Singh.
