Workshop on pottery, clay modelling underway

A three-day state level skill upgradation/ capacity building workshop on pottery and clay modelling organised as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav by Tribal Research Institute (TRI) in association with Imphal Art College began from Friday at TRI, Chingmeirong, Imphal.
Attending the inaugural event as chief guest, TA & Hills additional chief secretary Letkhogin Haokip expressed confidence that the workshop will help in increasing knowledge and skill of artisans.
Ukhrul district is at the forefront of pottery in the state and promoting the craftwork and providing support would help in improving the economy as well as the status of the artisans, he noted and urged the participants to take maximum benefits from the workshop and apply the knowledge in their works.
TA & Hills additional secretary Ken-goo Zuringla hailed the organisers for their initiatives of promoting pottery and clay modelling.
While it may be hobby for somebody, but these craft works are main income generating activities for others.
With many pursuing clay modelling as a fine art course, the potential of the craft work for income generation is increasing and one needs to fine-tune their skill in order to stay in the competition, she said.
The additional secretary also encouraged the participants to fully utilise the knowledge they gain from the workshop in producing new varieties and increasing market values of the products.
Imphal Art College principal A Hemanta and TA & Hills additional secretary DK Thangboi were also pres -ent at the event.
