2.7 kg heroin recovered; one held with drugs

Imphal, December 18 2021:
Troops of Moreh Battalion of IGAR (South) recovered 2.7 kg of suspected heroin worth Rs 10.7 crore near Govajang village, Moreh in Tengnoupal district on Thursday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), during border domination patrol, troops of Assam Rifles noticed a suspicious bag hidden in bushes along a track near Govajang village which leads to the Indo-Myanmar Border.
On searching of the bag, 2.7 kg of suspected heroin in 220 soap cases were recovered.
The recovered narcotics have been handed over to Moreh Police Station for further legal action, it added.
Meanwhile, Imphal East district poljce commandos arrested a 31-year-old man along with drugs from New Lambulane Churachandpur parking on Thursday.
Police identified the arrested person as Mangminthang Haokip alias Minthang, son of Demkhopao Haokip of Aisi village, Kamjong district.
He was arrested with two soap cases each containing 13 grams of heroin powder and six packets of WY tablets containing 200 pieces each during a search operation conducted on Thursday around noon.
During questioning, Mangminthang Haokip disclosed that he bought the drugs from one Chingboi of Moreh and was planning to supply it to another drug peddler in Churachandpur district.
He also revealed that he got involved in the illegal trade some months back.
The arrested man along with the seized drugs has been handed over to Porompat police station for further legal actions.
