Thoubal, January 18 2022:
A large group of women on Monday stormed the Heirok police station to denounce alleged failure of the police to recover the firearms used in gunning down a student named Ningthoujam Rohit and injuring his father on December 21, 2021 at Heirok.
A sit-in protest was organised by JAC Against the Brutal killing of N Rohit at Heirok Part-II Mayai Leikai Primary School Ground on Monday demanding justice to the victims and recovery of the firearms used in committing the crime.
At the end of the protest, the protesters stormed police station, banged its gate and raised slogans that the police must go away if they cannot solve the case and the people will protect Heirok themselves.
The mob also barricaded the station by piling wood, used tyres and blocked the road.
Later, an additional force of Thoubal Police arrived at the spot and tried to control the protest.
Six members of the JAC were then allowed to hold talks with the Heirok police station OC but no agreement could be reached.
Later, they waited for the SIT officer Sachidananda Soibam and investigating officer of the case, but both did not showed up.
One of the protesters, Khundongbam Shini stated that they are very suspicious of the investigation even after arrest of the six accused persons as the police are yet to locate the murder weapons till date.
Stating that government must punish the culprits suitably so that such incidents do not recur, she demanded that the chargesheet against the six accused should be submitted within 45 days.
