Rally pitches for ST tag to Meetei

Kakching, May 17 2024:
Students of Eureka Academy Thounaojam organised a protest march in and around Thounaojam in Kakching district on Friday demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for Meetei/Meitei community.
Around 1400 students of the Academy participated in the rally holding placards and raising slogans such as "We want ST", "ST- The Only way to save Meetei", and "Save Our Future" among others.
Interacting with the media, one of the students said that without constitutional safeguard such as ST status, Meetei will face the same as Tripuris in Tripura, and demanded the government to send the recommendation as proposed by the Centre.
The protestors said that they were organising the rally in support of the ongoing movement for granting ST status to Meetei community which is being spearheaded by World Meetei Council.
