PIMMSAA celebrates, honours meritorious students

Along with celebrating its first foundation day, Pan India Manipuri Meitei Scientists and Academicians' Association (PIMMSAA) on Tuesday presented its Community Resilient Educational Financial Support (CREFS) award to three students affected by the ongoing crisis.
The dual event held at Manipur University Chemistry Department seminar hall was marked by presentation of the first CREFS awards to Mangsatabam Beberani Chanu of St Xavier's School (Moirang), currently residing at Thanga Chingkha Bamon Mandop relief camp, who achieved 74 percent in Class XII (Arts) exam; Waikhom Bikash Singh of New Era Higher Secondary School (Thoubal), staying at Thongju Kendra relief camp, who secured 86 percent mark in Class XII (Science) exam; and Pushparani Yumnam of Little Bird's School (Moirang) , currently staying at Phubala High School relief camp, who scored 88.6 per cent mark in Class X exam.
Each award includes cash prize of Rs 10,000, certificate, and memento.
Speaking at the event, joint secretary Dr Sorokhaibam Somarendro Singh informed that PIMMSAA was formed by Manipuri sci entists and academicians working or settling in different states and countries to support those affected by the humanitarian crisis in Manipur.
The association has been assisting displaced students residing in various relief camps across the state and providing financial aid to the internally displaced students who are unable to take their exams.
PIMMSAA has also been creating employment opportunities for women in relief camps through its 'Sustainable Livelihood Mission' by supplying looms and helping them market their products, he said, adding that the CREFS award was floated by PIMMSAA this year to support and encourage students staying in relief camps who are classified as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and have passed Class X and XII exams.
The function was also attended by MU Physics Department former head Prof Ngangkham Nimai, PIMMSAA general secretary Dr Lairenlakpam Robindro, MU Chemistry Department head Prof Nongmiathem Rajen and DMU former VC Prof N Rajmuhon as chief guest, president, guest of honour and special invitee respectively.
