PHC locked to denounce transfer of doctor

Kakching, January 16 2025:
Opposing transfer of a doctor of the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Wangoo Laipham, without sending replacement, Wangoo locals put the gate of the PHC on Wednesday underdock and seal.
The decision to close the PHC was adopted in a public meeting held in the presence of PHC Hospital Management Committee chairman Loitongbam Sharat, advisor L Kherchandra, executive member Thoudam Dhamen and other office bearers along with local elders and meira paibi leaders.
Speaking at the meeting, Th Dhamen recounted that a doctor was transferred from the PHC on December 23, 2024 without sending a replacement, leaving the PHC with only three doctors and two staff nurses.

Further stating that the PHC had been providing round the clock service for the past 10 years in-spite of facing manpower shortage, he lamented that transfer of the lone doctor has resulted in complete derailment of normal service since January 11.As authorities concerned have ignored their demand for posting requisite number of staff for the PHC the lo cals were left with no option other than shutting down the facility till despatch of doctor and staff members.
According to a meira paibi leader, after the villagers aired their grievances to the local MLA K Ranjit, the health minister assured that a doctor will be sent for the PHC very soon.
However, the minister is yet to translate into action the assurance given, she rued, while also disclosing about Kakching CMO con ceding that he could not intervene on the matter.
As such, the villagers decided to lock the gate to protest government apathy, reasoned the meira paibi.
