Jiribam, November 13 2024:
While urging the Jiribam MLA to take proactive action and assume leadership responsibilities, Meira Paibis of Jiribam advised him not to remain silent as the unrest situation in Jiribam affects all communities, not just the Meetei community.
The 24-hour total shutdown called by 13 CSOs also severely impacted Jiribam district, with large number of people blocking roads across Jiribam, including at Gularthol.
Speaking to reporters, a meira paibi member opined that the recent incident at Borobekra could have been prevented with deployment of adequate security personnel and suffering of the people averted.
She condemned imposition of curfew in peaceful areas of Jiribam, particularly in the district headquarters.
The meira paibi also pointed out that within 4-5 hours, Kuki militants dropped 67 bombs on Borobekra and further contended that the unprecedented violence in the district is due to government of India's reluctance to sternly deal with the Kuki militants.
She also urged authorities concerned to secure the release of the abducted Meetei individuals.
Meanwhile, the total shutdown ended without any unwanted incidents thought commercial outlets ceased service and vehicles were off the road.
