Imphal, November 13 2023:
Tangkhul Naga Valley Students' Association (TNVSA), an apex body of students settling in the foothill areas of Ukhrul, Kamjong and Senapati districts, expressed strong condemnation against the state government over alleged irrational manipulation of internet services in the state.
In a release, TNVSA president Mathingso Jajo remarked that while people in Imphal town/valley have been enjoying about 60-70 per cent internet facility, and at the same time, people of Churachandpur are also enjoying the parallel services in the district concerned, ironically the same is being banned in all other 'neutral' districts.
Foothill area Tangkhul villages are deprived of internet services till date even after it has been restored in hill district headquarters like Ukhrul, Senapati, Tamenglong, etc., underlining unequal and unfair treatment, the president denounced and expressed that state government should apply logical sense whether ban on internet services in the state is still relevant and imposing ban in the places where there is no crisis is rationale.
Moreover, in-spite of the prolonged ban, social media platforms are being used for spreading propaganda and hate messages including video as usual.
Additionally, public never construe banning of internet services will be a solution to the current crisis.
On the contrary, it will be a blunder on the part of the state government to invite rounds of public agitations for such unnecessary derailment of internet services, he maintained.
President Mathingso suggested that the state government restore either cellular internet or installation of Wi-Fi internet services in each and every corner of the state considering the inconveniences being faced by the public, specially the disturbances caused to students, researchers, business activities and all walks of life for their studies and accessing basic day to day information.
