Ukhrul, October 13 2024:
Tangkhul Naga Contractors' Association has raised serious concerns over the current scenario vis-a-vis execution of developmental works and resolved to ban outside firms from operating within its jurisdiction covering both Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
"We have decided to oppose and ban outside companies from operating within the districts and appeal to the relevant authorities not to award new contracts to outside firms in the upcoming programmes including Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and other developmental projects," stated Lamkan Shatshang, joint secretary of the Association, in a statement, while noting that outside firms are not responsive.
He informed that the Association held a meeting on September 28 and discussed the present state of various projects, especially those undertaken by external firms such as Varaha Infra Ltd which was contracted under the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHID-CL) for the Imphal-Ukhrul road, and Sudhakara Infra Tech Private Ltd, which was engaged for the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) projects funded by New Development Bank.
"The quality of work executed by these companies is unsatisfactory in terms of the specifications and bound agreement," Shatshang pointed out, adding that the same prompted the Association to take a firm stand against the involvement of outside contractors in future projects.
In light of the development, the Association has also invited the state's civil society organisations (CSOs) and the Manipur Contractors' Forum to co-operate with them in its effort to ban outside firms in public interest.
