Eldest son drowns trying to save kid brother

A poor mother in Chandel's Boljang village in Sugnu bade a heroic adieu' to her eldest son, an examinee of the ongoing HSLC examination, after he lost his life while saving his drowning brother in Chakpi river on April 9 .
Nengboi Baite of Boljang village in Sugnu, Chandel district became a widow after her husband Seimang left for his heavenly abode a few years back and had to solely depend on his eldest son Thangminjoy Baite (16).However, in a cruel turn of events, her hope in her son was completely shattered after Thangminjoy lost his precious life while saving his drowning brother in Chakpi river.
According to the deceased's cousin brother Minthang, owing to scarcity of water in the village, Thangminjoy and his brother along with a few friends went to Chakpi river to wash their clothes around noon.
After a few minutes, Thangminjoy saw his brother Thangjalen struggling, jumped into the river and pulled out his brother to safety but lost his own life in the process.
His lifeless body was found later by a search party from the village.
Nengboi Baite, who struggled to control her emotions, said that her son was the only hope of the family after his father expired, adding that being the elder one he was very understanding and thoughtful.
"I am proud of my son's bravery and heroic act.
He sacrificed his life to save his brother...now, my younger son has to shoulder the burden of responsibilities of the family at a young age, the poor mother said.
Ihangminjoy Baite was a student of St Joseph's Higher Secondary School, Sugnu.
Meanwhile, when the news about the incident was posted on Facebook, Kuki actor Paolen Kom was completely moved by the story and immediately sought the sympathy of chief minister N Biren Singh and his cabinet colleagues to help the poor mother by posting his request on his Facebook wall.
The actor also mentioned that Ihangminjoy Baite deserves a nomination for "Jeevan Raksha Padak" for his act of bravery in saving his brother's life.
