State receives ₹9 crore for fisheries infra

Imphal, February 11 2025:
The Government of India has approved Rs 8.99 crore for developing fisheries-related post-harvest infrastructure in Manipur under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) during the last four financial year, and the current financial year, as per a written reply by union minister of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
According to the minister, the sanctioned funds include Rs 2.80 crore for cold storages/ice plants, Rs 1 crore for insulated vehicles, and Rs 39 lakh for three-wheelers with ice boxes.
Additionally, Rs 1.20 crore has been allocated for live fish vending centres, while Rs'2 crore has been approved for retail markets.
The scheme also includes Rs 1.60 crore for kiosks to strengthen fish marketing and vending infrastructure in the state.
PMMSY, the flagship scheme of the ministry, is being implemented with the highest-ever investment of Rs 20,050 crore in the fisheries sector for five years from 2020721 to 2024-25 across all states and Union Territories.
The scheme aims to enhance cold chain infrastructure, post-harvest fish processing facilities, quality fish production, and market access, among other objectives.
