Imphal, October 10 2024:
The Right to Information (RTI) Week-2024 organised by Manipur Information Commission since October 5 concluded at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday.
The closing function was attended by Hill Areas Committee chairman MLA Dinganglung Gangmei and chief information commissioner Koijam Radhashyam Singh as chief guest and president respectively while Manipur University of Culture VC Prof Paonam Gunindro Singh and former state chief information commissioner Oinam Sunil Singh were the guests of honour.
In his address, Dinganglung Gangmei said that RTI should be used for constructive purposes rather than perceiving it as a means of avenge.
RTI should be viewed as a constructive tool for betterment of the society and to protect the community, he stressed and advised the students to understand Manipur in its entirety, including the various communities and their distinct cultures.
He opined lack of knowledge on composition of the Manipuri society as the main hurdle in unifying the indigenes.
Speaking on the occasion, Oinam Sunil recounted that there have been instances where the media in the state were portrayed as biased.
Therefore, he suggested applying RTI as a tool, and media persons to query policy of both the state and the central governments regarding the 17-month long crisis in Manipur.
Meanwhile, prizes were also distributed to the winners of the painting competition held as part of the observance.
