Kakching, November 09 2024:
ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Chandel organised a held day on the paddy variety RC-Maniphou-16 under Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) at Riverlane village, Chandel district, on Thursday.
The event aimed to demonstrate to farmers the benefits of adopting INM practices to enhance the production, productivity, and economic viability of rice farming.
Addressing the gathering, ICAR-KVK Chandel's SMS (agronomy) Dr Khumlo Levish highlighted the promising performance of the newly released RC-Maniphou-16 variety by ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Manipur Centre.
This semi-dwarf, medium-duration rice variety boasts a potential yield of 7-8 tons per hectare with appropriate management.
It is resistant to both leaf and neck blast diseases and is known for its soft cooking quality and low amylose content, making it a preferred choice among the people of Manipur.
He emphasised that INM is a comprehensive strategy designed to improve rice yields by reducing nutrient loss to the environment and enhancing nutrient use efficiency.
Additionally, she noted that INM plays a significant role in climate change adaptation, improving soil health, and fostering resilience.
She encouraged farmers to apply fertilisers judiciously to ensure soil health and sustainability.
Senior scientist and head of ICAR-KVK Chandel Dr A Ameeta urged farmers to adopt INM and reduce reliance on inorganic fertilisers to sustain crop productivity and maintain ecological balance.
She lauded the dedication, sincerity, and hard work of farmers, recognising their significant contributions to the agricultural sector.
The event also included a scientist-farmer interaction session attended by experts from ICAR-KVK Chandel, including Leenda Monsang (SMS, Plant Breeding), Dr K Sonamani (SMS, SWCE), Dr Y Prabhabati (SMS, Home Science), and Ps Lavid Anal (SMS, Horticulture).
Following the interaction, a field visit was conducted to showcase the INM technology, which was witnessed by 38 farmers along with ICAR-KVK Chandel staff.
