PNNM celebrates 35th foundation day

Poumai Naga Women's Union (PNNM)'s 35th foundation day was inaugurated by Karong MLA J Kumo Sha as the chief guest while V Martha, the first PNNM president, was speaker of the event, which started with honouring the former presidents of the Union since its inception.
In her address, PNNM president P Delilah stated that the theme "Striving for Justice'' was chosen for the occasion to remember Poumai women who Were the worst sufferers during the Operation Bluebird in the aftermath of the Oinam Hill incident on July 9, 1987.When justice was delayed for the victims of Opera tion Bluebird, the women organisation was formed in the same year to seek justice for them and to spread the message that it has been delayed until now, she added, Chief guest MLA Kumo Sha saluted the first president of the Union and her team and expressed solidarity to suffering that women of the region had gone through during those days.
The MLA also noted that the necessity to form the women's union was felt to redress their grievances and harassment they faced.
He called women, mothers and sisters as the hope and the foundation of every home in the society.
Poumai apex bodies like Poumai Naga Union, Poumai Naga Students' Union, chairpersons and secretaries of various women organisations and senior leaders attended the programme.
The next session followed with an exhortation from V Martha, the first president of PNNM and short speech from the present president of the Union.
