Native fruit tree, orchid saplings planted

World Environment Day (WED) was observed by Zingtun Tangkhul Katamnao Long (ZTKL) Green Zingtun Mission and hosted by ZKL at M Raikhan Ecological Park at Talui village in Ukhrul district on June 6, according to a delayed report.
The participants of the event observed the day by planting "native fruit trees and orchids" at M Raikhan Ecological Park.
"It is a local action with global significance.
We can also contribute more to society by taking up actions based on the theme Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature'.
The activities commemorating the 2022 observance of World Environment Day at Talui Village Community Hall which unfolded from 12 pm to 5 pm were carried out by about 60 participants," said a press release by the organisers.
Participants were from different village student units and the public.
The programme was led by TKL Christina Shangjam, and the celebration of WED was deliberated by Dr Ngalengshim.
He also deliberated on the basic concept and significance of Environment and Biodiversity for our livelihood.
He elaborated on the Ukhrul district environmental conditions like forest fire, hunting, deforestation, and the uses of pesticides and fertilizers - the main threats to the biodiversity and environment which they have found from their rainforest biodiversity of Phalee documentation and research.
Home Raikhan, IRS (Rdt), the chief guest of the event, elaborated on the concept of ecological park and its components village," and how we should make an eco-friendly, family friendly and a standard infrastructure including proper waste management system".
He then advised to plant more trees, contemplate on nature and express in the form of song and poetry, walk more and drive less so that they benefits in both ways i.e., exercise and pollution control.
He then congratulated the ZTKL and the host TKL for taking up such initiative and stressed that such actions bring hope to the people.
He also inaugurated the ZTKL - Green Zingtun Mission Orchid Park within the Machazang Raikhan Ecological Park.
In his keynote address, former ZTKL president, AC Thotso said, "We envisage to utilise this 2 sq km magnanimously donated by Talui village, now named as M Raikhan Ecological Park, as a preservation hub".
Thotso also said that the park would stand as a cradle of "our history and commitment to Green Zingtun Mission" .
As a pilot project, Thotso said that they would be launching a Native Orchid's Farm and fruit bearing trees plantation within the park as part of our mission and observance of World Environment Day.
