Imphal, August 08 2024:
All India Trade Union Congress (AI-TUC) Manipur president Dr M Nara has asserted that the 15-month long crisis in the state can only be resolved through political dialogue and no other approach.
Speaking at the state level convention of AITUC Manipur at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday in the presence of Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) former acting chairperson Khaidem Mani, AITUC Manipur general secretary Laishram Sotinkumar and Nupi Marup patron member S Sorojini among others, M Nara pointed out the need for all political parties involved in the government formation to adopt a sincere approach.
Given the protracted nature of the crisis, the people of the state are enduring severe hardships as thousands have been displaced and hundreds lost their lives with many others nursing injuries or permanently disabled.
The convention was envisioned to address challenges and facilitate discussion on how to effectively resolve the situation, he said adding that various groups have been causing disturbances to commuters along NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur Road) and NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) for several years.
AITUC Manipur has been urging the government to establish a Highway Protection Force for some time, but the government is yet to address the proposal, he rued.
The highway issue, along with hardships faced by the workers due to inadequate wage payments, was also discussed at the convention.
