Imphal, December 06 2021:
Zeliangrong United front (ZUF) on Monday strongly condemned and questioned the Assam Rifles' recent attack at the ZUF mobile camp on Sunday.
In a press release, ZUF said that it had not imagined the Assam Rifles would harbour such hostile attitude when the Front is restraining from any offensive operation and working to create a conducive atmosphere for peaceful resolution with the GOI in resolving the protracted political movement of Zeliangrong people for a final settlement.
The Zeliangrong militant outfit further said that it was expecting the Indian military forces to exercise certain level of understanding with the Front but disappointed by the incident as ZUF with an intention of creating peaceful environment is deploying some of its members in some strategic locations to check any potential public unrest and disturbances ahead of the state assembly election.
"It was unthought-of happening that the Indian military forces are creating public unrest, anxiety and threat when the people are cherishing and preparing for a season of happy Christmas and blessed moments of the year," ZUF said, adding that the incident was unfortunate.
ZUF then cautioned the security forces "to refrain from offensive activities, using or deploying/employing certain insurgent groups in their operation against the people based military organisation.
"It also asked the security forces not to resort to "any dishonest means to demean or destroy the credibility of the organisation".
"If such activity is repeated in future, ZUF may be compelled to even exercise offensive measures," it warned.
ZUF also dismissed reports of a combined team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police busting ZUF hideouts at Nungjang village in Kangpokpi district, saying that "an unknown village publicised on Tuesday last is totally denied and far from reality.
There is no such operation and no arms and ammunition lost or left".
The news item displaying seized arms was just an invented story to deceive the people and the government as well as to make a good report for the security forces involved, it added.
