Imphal, September 06 2021:
Communist Party of India-Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) in association with All Manipur Nupi Marup, All India Youth Federation and Manipur Loumee Lup staged a sit-in demonstration denouncing the sudden hike in prices of cooking gas and transport fuel in the state on Monday.
Speaking on the sidelines, Council secretary in-charge RK Amusana remarked that the sudden hike of cooking gas and fuel prices in the country does not depict the BJP government's love for the people, especially in the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.
Markets have remained closed and the distributions of some quantity of rice for free will not redress the difficulties of the people, he pointed out.
Questioning why the price has been hiked so suddenly, Amusana stressed that cooking gas should be made available to the poor people for free.
He then condemned the arbitrary detention of all those who have voiced their opinion against the government, while remarking on the double standard nature of the MLAs/ministers with regard to observance of SOPs.
"The big question at the moment is how the people can fully respect a government that refuses to listen to the sentiments of its people.
A government's duty is to ensure the welfare of the people.
If it fails to do so, it has no right or meaning to be called a government", he contended, while urging the government to take measures for controlling prices of essential items at the earliest.
