Imphal, August 05 2024:
Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, achieved a significant milestone on Monday with the inauguration of state-of-the-art 3D C-Arm Machine for Department of Orthopaedics.
The machine was inaugurated by RIMS director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma in the presence of medical superintendent Prof N Sanjib Singh, at the operation theatre complex.
According to a statement issued by RIMS PRO, Prof Sunil highlighted the importance of the 3D C-Arm Machine, which has been introduced in the state for the first time and second in the North East region.
The machine costing approximately Rs 5 crore represents a significant advancement in surgical technology, said the director, who also explained that the 3D C-Arm offers numerous benefits, including state-of-the-art reconstructive capabilities, enhanced imaging similar to CT scans during surgeries, and a reduction in the need for separate CT scans, thereby lowering radiation exposure for patients.
Prof Sunil Kumar also emphasised that the machine would significantly improve quality of imaging available to surgeons, enabling them to perform operations more efficiently and with greater precision.
This, in turn, would offer immense benefits to patients, particularly in complex procedures such as pelvic and spinal surgeries.
Additionally, the machine's ability to easily handle bullet injury cases was noted as a critical feature, allowing surgeons to accurately detect the location of bullets within the body.
The inauguration was attended by head of departments, doctors, and staff of RIMS, who welcomed the new technology as a valuable addition to the hospital's surgical capabilities.
In a related development, RIMS also launched a week-long campaign to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week 2024 under the theme "Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All.
"The campaign, organised by the College of Nursing in collaboration with the department of paediatrics and obstetrics & gynaecology, aims to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and to promote maternal and child health.
The programme was conducted as an exhibition cum awareness event for patients, with active participation from students and faculty members of the College of Nursing, RIMS.
College of Nursing principal Prof H Jamuna Devi highlighted the extensive benefits of breastfeeding for both babies and mothers.
She stressed that breastfeeding plays a crucial role in improving health outcomes, enhancing maternal-child relationships, and reducing the risk of ovarian and breast cancer for mothers.
Prof Jamuna also underscored the broader implications of breastfeeding, linking it to improved maternal health, good nutrition, poverty reduction, and food security..
The global campaign aims to raise awareness and galvanise action around these important themes, added the PRO.
