MU's 30 Korean Language students get scholarship

A total of 30 students pursuing Korean language in the Department of Foreign Languages at Manipur University were awarded scholarship by Shinhan Bank during a distribution ceremony held at the department on Wednesday.
The distribution function was attended by MU Foreign Language Department visiting professor Hyunkyung Lee, School of Humanities dean professor S Imoba and Department head (in charge) Dr Ahanthem Romita as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, professor Hyunkyung Lee informed that Shin-han Bank, in South Korea, launched an overseas scholarship project in 2020, sanctioning Rs 3 lakh to support students pursuing the Korean language at Manipur University.
Since then, the bank has been awarding scholarships of Rs 10,000 each to 30 students every year, based on their performance in semester exams.
For this year, scholarships were granted to one student from BA 2nd year, seven from BA 3rd year, nine from MA 1st year, and 13 students from MA 2nd year, he said.
Professor Lee further highlighted that students who receive these scholarships, will have the opportunity to secure employment in Korean banks and companies upon completion of their undergraduate or master's programmes.
Some alumni of the department have already been employed by Korean banks and companies, he revealed.
Additionally, two students currently pursuing post-graduate studies in Korean language were also awarded Rs 1 lakh each as scholarship.
