Imphal, August 03 2024:
Manipur State Council of the All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation (AIPSO) has strongly condemned the recent police crackdown on internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Imphal.
A statement of AIPSO Manipur State Council informed that during a meeting held at Irawat Bhawan on Thursday, which was presided over by Dr M Nara and G Tomba, AIPSO members expressed their dismay over the harsh treatment of IDPs who were only demanding resettlement in their original homes.
The meeting also condemned the merciless assault on a journalist during the incident.
In response to these events, AIPSO state unit urged the state government to take immediate and appropriate action against the police personnel involved in the crackdown.
They further urged the state government to expedite resettlement measures for the displaced population and to seek a rehabilitation package from the Central government.
The ongoing crisis in the state, which has persisted since May 3 last year and claimed 226 lives and displaced over 60,000 people, will be a key topic of discussion at the upcoming National Council Meeting of AIPSO.
The meeting is scheduled to take place in Delhi from August 16 to 18, where the Manipur State Council plans to raise these issues.
