Workshop on 'Cooperation among Cooperatives' held

A one-day workshop on the theme "Cooperation among Cooperatives" was organised by District Cooperative Office, Kakching at Elangkhangpokpi Mamang Leikai community hall on Friday.
The function was attended by Regional Institute of Cooperative Management (RICM), Kalyani former director Dr K Ibomcha Meitei and district cooperative officer Karam Dilipkumar as chief guest and president respectively while retired Cooperative Societies deputy registrar Kh Tomba and Kakching Khunou GP Level Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited president Khumukcham Kalachand were the guests of honour.
In his keynote address, District Cooperative Office, Kakching inspector Okram Rakesh, who is also auditor of Cooperative Societies, said that the primary objective of the workshop is to raise awareness about the role of cooperatives in improving the economic status of people in rural areas.
Discussion was also held on the sub-topic "Role of Cooperatives in the Development of the Rural Economy and Membership Participation" .
As a part of the workshop, Cooperative Societies managing director M Nanao talked on "Role of Cooperatives in Rural Development", and Md Parish Khan on the "Role of the Board of Directors in a Cooperative Society" while Kh Tomba presented a lecture on "Various Initiatives Taken by the Ministry of Cooperation" .
Speaking at the event, Dr K Ibomcha Meitei noted that the cooperative movement in Manipur began in 1939, but has not progressed as expected due to lack of awareness among the people.
He stressed the importance of understanding the benefits of cooperatives to boost the state's economy.
