Forest Dept, ICICI Foundation ink MoU

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Was executed on Tuesday between state's Forest Department and ICICI Foundation for inclusive growth and establishment of eight spring water harvesting units in Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
The water harvesting units shall cater to the need of drinking water of about 3000 households in the two districts.
The MoU was signed by Conservator of Forests for Central Forest Division L Joykumar Singh and ICICI Foundation head programmes (Rural Livelihood and Value Chains) Suketu Kumar in the presence of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force AK Joshi, Divisional Forest Officer RK Amarjit Singh, assistant Conservator of Forests Viba Veimy, ICICI Foundation project manager Pumgouthang and Zonal Head, East, ICICI Foundation Dipanjan Biswas.
AK Joshi expressed his gratefulness to ICICI Foundation for sponsoring such noble ventures which aims to serve the dual purpose of ensuring potable drinking to the local people and protecting and conserving forests in the catchment areas.
He also noted that provision of water is one of the 35 main ecosystem services provided by forest and that the ICICI Foundation should also explore the possibility of initiating interventions in rest of the ecosystem services.
ICICI Foundation is also venturing into biofloc fish rearing in Lamdeng, Kameng of Imphal West and Mongjam area in Imphal East tostrengthen economy of the people of these villages.
The aforementioned project on spring water harvesting unit is expected to be complef ed by the end of this financial year.
ICICI foundation had also funded three such units earlier, one each at Lamdeng and Kameng village in Imphal West district and at Mongjam village in Imphal East district.
