Imphal, June 30 2022:
While appreciating the initiative of the government to fulfil the demand for amending the ROP 2019 for teachers, Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) has stated that the June 29 order has left various questions unanswered, which could force COTA to resume its stir.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Thursday, COTA convener Laishram Jugindro said that the rectification of ROP 2019 is a three-year old demand by teachers and the recent order failed to resolve all the issues.
In the existing system of the state, teachers are classified into primary, graduate and lecturer.
However, the government order'replaced lecturer with Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) similar to those under National Council of Teachers' Education (NCTE).
Since the government is using name of the post as per NCTE, it should not ignore the pay scale prescribed under NCTE, he said.
While voicing objection against setting 12 years as the time scale for graduate teachers, putting on hold promotion and pay increment and demanding the government to resolve the issues at the earliest, he also expressed dissatisfaction over the issuance of pay related orders by education commissioner/director instead of the Pay Implementing Cell (PIC).
The COTA convener then demanded the government to remove new terminologies used in the June 29 order while adding that a memorandum in this regard will be Submitted to the government after adopting the same in the general body meeting of COTA.
