Imphal, June 30 2021:
Naoriya Pakhanglakpa ex-MLA and BJP Manipur Pradesh executive member RK Anand has urged the BJP government to repair and properly maintain the Waishel Maril (tributary), which passes through constituencies of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa, Patsoi, Sagolband, Keishamthong, Wangoi, Nambol and Oinam and is often plagued with flash floods.
Speaking to newspersons while conducting an inspection of the tributary on Wednesday, Anand recalled that during his time as Congress MLA, he had submitted a proposal for repairing Waishel Maril, but was rejected by the then government.
Despite this, he utilised his MLA LADF and private funds in cleaning and dredging the tributary to prevent flash floods and improve the irrigation of nearby paddy fields.
He then said that although the MLAs of other constituencies have begun cleansing of areas of the tributaries falling under their respective jurisdiction, nothing has been taken up for Naoriya AC.
As such, he urged the CM, who also holds the portfolio of Minor Irrigation (MI), and the Water Resources minister to look into the matter and do the needful as soon as possible.
Anand further recounted that Manipur Pollution Control Board had planned a conceptual proposal titled "Waste Water Treatment Clean up in Nambul and Waishel Maril Basin Manipur" during his time as an MLA.
However, the plan was never implemented, which disheartened many farmers and others.
Thus, the then Congress government could be considered as an anti-people and anti-farmer government, he remarked.
Expressing hope that CM Biren would take up farmer-friendly works, the ex-MLA said that the CM had responded positively to the project.
He (Anand) also urged for revitalisation of the River Lift Irrigation schemes of the MI department to improve the irrigation facilities of the nearby paddy fields.
