Imphal, December 30 2021:
A written complaint has been filed against holding the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election before holding the pending election to the 27 urban local bodies of the state.
The complaint letter has been addressed to the Prime Minister, Union minister of housing and urban affairs, Manipur Governor, chief minister of Manipur and principal secretary of the Election Commission of India.
As per the complaint signed by advocate Usham Agusta Singh representing his client named Heisnam Geetabali, daughter of Lukhoi of Koirengei Bazar, numerous complaints had been lodged for conduct of election to the 27 urban local bodies of the state.
Tenure of the elected councillors in the 27 local bodies lapsed in February/March this year and existing tenure for Imphal Municipal Corporation too ended on June 15 this year.
In violation of Manipur Municipality Act, 1994, the state government appointed its officers to deal with activities of local bodies, the complaint said, adding that appointment of deputy commissioner/ MAHUD director as administrator was against the laid down norms.
The complaint also said that government and MLA's suppressed election of urban local bodies to take advantage in state assembly election and appealed to all concerned to stop holding the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election before holding the pending election to the 27 urban local bodies.
