The Joint Action Committee of 12 CSOs and student bodies formed for restructuring and strengthening the Tribal Research Institute TRI) has called for support from all the Tribal CSOs.
The JAC jointly formed by the All Manipur Tribal Union, All Tribal Indigenous People's Organisation Manipur, All Tribal Disabled Union Manipur, All Tribal Rights Protection Forum Manipur, Federation of All Tribal Youth Club Manipur, Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur-Imphal Longlian, All Inpui Naga Students' Union, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur-Ntaiphai Longlian, Rongmei Naga Luphuam-Imphal Longlian, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur-Ntaiphai Longlian and Rongmei Luphuam Assam Manipur and Nagaland, in a press release issued today said TRI has great potential forthe development of tribal society but has been marred by various problems in recent years.
The JAC will do everything they can to expose all loopholes, discrepancies, misappropriations of funds, failure to organise Annual State Level Tribal Festival for the last 4 years and non-compliance of orders issued by the AD (Tribal Affairs and Hills), added the statement.
The TRI has failed on many fronts to serve for the welfare of tribal people in the State as TRI has been unable to tap sufficient funds from the Central Government as it had failed to furnish Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) .
The lack of fund has also affected in continuation or initiation of schemes for the tribal students including fellowship to research scholars, free coaching for competitive exams for ST aspirants and recruitment of at least 15 research positions for the institute as mandated by Ministry of Tribal Affairs in its operational guidelines for TRIs, added the statement.
