'Need platform for youth to showcase talents'

Wangkhei AC MLA Thangjam Arunkumar has stressed the need for providing a suitable platform to the innovative youth of the state to showcase their talents and skills.
He was speaking as chief guest of the 4Qth Foundation Day celebration of Union of Social Up-liftment (USU), an apex body of different organisations in Imphal East District, held at the hall of Sangeet Kala Sangam near Khurai Lamlong Keithel on Sunday.
Presided over by USU president Laishram Sanajaoba, the function was attended by Nandeibam Leikai ZP member Athokpam Okendro, Imphal East District DC Khumanthem Diana, Imphal East SP M Pradip and DDK, Imphal director Hemanta Naorem as guests of honour.
MLA Arunkumar expressed firm belief that there are many innovative youths in Wangkhei AC alone, and as such, he is in talks with experts to hold a fair (mela) to provide an opportunity to the youth to showcase their innovative ideas, innate talents and skills.
He then pointed out that Japan is considered a futuristic country because its people value time to the utmost level.
However, in Manipur, unpunctuality is regarded as the norm.
Often times, invitation cards only have the starting time mentioned and the closing time excluded.
But it is important to set a fix opening and closing time so as to ease in scheduling tasks and also help in cultivating the habit of punctuality, he contended.
Arunkumar then said that education is the backbone of the society and as such, he has taken up steps to develop the government schools in Wangkhei AC to the level of private schools.
Meanwhile, steps will be taken up to repair the Ayangpalli road and Hatta-JNIMS route, which is included in the 100 days programme of the government, at the earliest, he conveyed, while appreciated the efforts made by USU in saving the youth from the influence of drugs and also in art and culture, sports and education sector.
As part of the function, the dignitaries released the 16th newsletter volume of USU, followed by presentation of gifts to vendors of the market and Moirang Ningthou Memorial Award to prominent personalities in field of art and culture.
