Imphal, August 25 2024:
A 4-year old girl with high fever succumbed on the way from CHC Moirang to Imphal around noon on Sunday even as parents of the victim child alleged that doctors and nurses on duty at the CHC ignored their ailing child for around 8 hours.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club here on Sunday, Ningthoujam Joychandra of Thanga Karam Bamon Leikai, uncle of the victim, said that the girl child was rushed to the Moirang CHC on Sunday around 1 am with high fever.
However, doctors and nurses on duty assured them that nothing will happen and advised them to wait till the daybreak.
After repeated requests, the staffers on duty administered medicine around 8 am, along with informing that the paediatric doctor will arrive at 11 am to check the child's condition.
The doctor, who showed up few minutes after 11 am, examined their child and prescribed seven diagnostic tests.
However, repeated attempts to draw blood for testing turned futile after which, the doctor referred the child to Imphal.
Unfortunately, the child died on the way to Imphal, he elaborated.
Alleging negligence of doctors and nurses on duty by leaving the ailing child untreated for around 8 hours and making the patient's party to wait for another three hours for the paediatric doctor, the uncle appealed to the authority concerned to take up appropriate actions against the doctors and nurses concerned.
