AR seizes WY tablets, police raid liquor outlets

Imphal, June 25 2021:
Maram Battalion Assam Rifles of Jwalamukhi Sector/IGAR (E) seized 8000 Methamphetamine tablets of WY (World is Yours) worth Rs 24 lakh at Mao area along NH-2 on Thursday.
An Assam Rifles release informed that specific report regarding smuggling of narcotics from Senapati to Dimapur was received from a reliable source following which a quick reaction team was immediately launched on NH-2 to nab the smugglers.
The security forces established a check post and started checking all suspected vehicles during which a TATA truck (MN-01 9570) was intercepted and the recovery of 8000 Methamphetamine tablets was made.
The smugglers identified as NJ Singh, Mohammed Aziz and Namga Newne were apprehended along with the drugs.
All the apprehended individuals along with the confiscated vehicle and drugs have been handed over to Mao Police station.
Meanwhile, police continued to launch crackdown on sale of liquor and seized large quantity of both Indian made foreign and DIC liquor from different locations and arrested 4 persons on Friday.
According to a police report, a team of Imphal West district commando recovered around 250 IMFL bottles and other alcoholic beverages from the residence of one Thounaojam Somendro Meetei (42), s/o (L) Th Manglem Meetei of Tera Tong-bram Leikai around 11:30 am, Friday.
Somendro along with the recovered liquor consignment will be handed over to Excise department for further legal actions, the report mentioned.
On the other hand, a combined team of Porompat Police station and Imphal East district police commandos nabbed three persons and recovered large quantity of liquor from different locations around Friday, 4 pm.
The individuals have been identified as Moirangthem Rakesh Singh (40), s/o M Shamu Singh and Ningombam Binoychandra Singh, s/o (L) N Rajo Singh, both residents of Soibam Leikai Meeri Leirak and Sinam Sanajaoba Singh (59) s/o (L) Angou Singh from New Checkon.
In all, over 400 bottles of IMFL and alcoholic beverages were recovered from the residences of the trio.
They along with the seized liquor will be handed over to Excise department for further legal actions, said another police report.
