Resolve rice distribution mess of Hiyanglam A/C: LJP

Imphal, May 25 2021: Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has appealed to the Chief Minister and the minister concerned to resolve the ongoing issue surrounding the distribution of rice under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) in Hiyanglam A/C.In a press release, LJP 38-Hiyanglam Kendra Committee Publicity and propaganda secretary E Achouba Meetei said that the people of Hiyanglam AC have been deprived of their entitled rice allocation for the past few years.

There have been times where the rice was not distributed for months on end.

The situation has been further worsened by the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown/curfew imposed to curb the spread of the virus.

In early May, a meeting was held at Langmeidong, attended by the MLA's Nominee and local leaders to discuss proper distribution of PDS and NFSA rice.

It was decided during the meeting to initiate action against agents not distributing 5kg per head from January this year onwards.

However, no action has been taken up till date.

Questioning whose responsibility is it to add new AAY and PHH beneficiaries, preparation of new cards and linkage of Aadhaar; Achouba further questioned the delay for the same, while urging against any attempt to confuse the people who are already struggling through life so much.

Enquiring whether a white paper on the matter is not the need of the hour; the secretary contended that the people are demanding only their entitled rights and not demanding the same from the pocket of private individuals.

"LJP will always stand in support of the people of Hiyanglam," Achouba said, while appealing to the CM and the minister concerned to look into the matter.

He then appealed to the people to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 SOP so as to prevent the spread of Covid-19 .
