IW police fetes AMWJU executives

Imphal, November 23 2021:
Imphal West district police felicitated newly elected standing committee members of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) at the City Police Station on Tuesday evening.
Speaking at the felicitation function, AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shyamjai expressed that similar to the press upholding its service to the public as the fourth pillar of democracy, the police too are playing significant big role for the welfare of the people.
As such, there is a need for promoting healthy relationship between police and press, he said.
Assuring that press will continue to fulfill their responsibilities seriously and with its ethics for welfare of the people, Shyamjai recalled the number of crimes committed against journalists.
Unfortunately, majority of those involved hi such crimes are yet to be punished according to the law, he maintained while assuring that the press will continue to perform its roles and responsibilities.
Observing that the law and order situation has improved in the last four five years, he maintained that such improvement is a blessing for the state.
Speaking at the event, Imphal West SP Dr S Ibomcha commended police and press for working cordially.
Sometimes, misunderstandings crop up between the two despite such good relationship.
As such police has been organising awareness programmes to strengthen the relation.
While wishing goodwill to the newly elected standing committee members of AMWJU, he assured that police will extend full cooperation in protecting the journalists.
Simple gifts were presented to the standing committee members during the felicitation programme.
