Imphal, January 22 2022:
MPP 'president' Laikhuram Apabi group's general secretary (organisation) cum central committee member Thokchom Sajukumar has appealed to shop owners doing business at MPP shopping complex not to give any donation to the party till the party has elected office bearers.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday, Sajukumar said that the dispute over the utilisation of huge amount of party fund by former president Jugindro and general secretary administration Gitajen during 2019 Lok Sabha election is yet to be settled and there is the court's ruling that MPP does not have any office bearers at present.
Amidst all these and the efforts being made to end the internal dispute, some people led by Gitajen reportedly demanded huge amount of money ranging from Rs 50,000 from smaller shops and Rs 1 lakh from large shops at MPP shopping complex and all shops have remained closed now.
It was unreasonable for Gitajen to make such demand by possessing a fake office bearer post, he said and asked all concerned to vacate the office immediately.
Sajukumar also appealed to shops owners not to pay any amount till the party has authorised office bearers.
He also appealed to MPP intending candidates to stop dreaming of becoming party's candidates till having authorised office bearers.
Meanwhile, shop owners in MPP shopping complex have unanimously decided not to open any shop if the self-styled MPP leader Gitanjen does not withdraw allegations levelled against four shop owners.
A decision in this regard was taken during a joint meeting of the shop owners at Kshetri Bengoon Awang Leikai community hall on Saturday wherein Manipur People's Party Shopping Complex Welfare Association was also floated.
On behalf of the newly formed association, Md Rafi Khan said that the self-styled MPP leader Gitanjen's allegation of non-payment of security deposit and monthly rent levelled against four shop owners in the shopping complex was unfounded and condemnable.
According to Md Rafi, it was very unfortunate that Gitajen levelled allegations against shop owners in the MPP shopping complex and even blamed shop owners of trying to wipe out MPP through media.
In fact, shop owners have been helping the party from time to time and taking part in people-oriented activities initiated by the party, he said, adding that shops owners have been taking part in activities of the party.
Regarding the allegation levelled against four shop owners by Gitajen, Md Rafi Khan said that all shop owners paid security deposits and monthly rents and all relevant documents including receipt are with the shop owners and anyone could see these documents.
Apart from this, shops owners have been abiding all the rules and regulations of MPP.
