2nd Edition of EIIFF to feature 57 films

Stage is set for the second edition of the international film festival "Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival" (EIIFF) to be organised under the aegis of Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) from February 6 to 9.Addressing media persons in this regard at MSFDS in Palace Gate, here, on Tuesday, MSFDS secretary Sunzu Bachaspatimayum, who is also the festival director of EIIFF, announced that the festival will showcase a total of 57 films.
These will include 13 Manipuri films and 33 international films.
Among the international selection, 16 are documentary films and 18 are short films.
The festival will be divided into two categories - fiction and non-fiction.
The fiction category will feature 11 films, including 7 international films from Myanmar, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Bhutan, Uzbekistan and Nepal.
Four Indian films, including the Manipuri film "Bung", are also part of this category.
In the non-fiction category, 10 films will compete, including six international films from countries such as Nepal, Germany, Australia, Japan, Iran, Bhutan and Norway.
These international films have won accolades at various film festivals, he added.
As part of the festival, 11 films from Northeast India will be featured in the Northeast Current Series, Sunzu said while also informing that the festival will include the screening of "Indian Women Atlas", an animation film produced by MSFDS based on the life of weightlifter Kunjarani, as well as re-mastered classic Manipuri films.
Highlighting the importance of short films in the state, Sunzu said that a teaching programme will be conducted for aspiring filmmakers in the state teaching programme to enable the upcoming film makers of the state to attain a place in short films.
The festival will also feature panel discussions and master classes to help those interested in pursuing a career in film enhance their skills and ideas.
