Three KCP cadres arrested

Imphal, July 20 2024: A team of Kakching district police commando arrested a cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) Taibangnganba Group at around 2.10 pm on Saturday.

According to a police report, on receiving reliable information about extortion being carried out in areas of Kakching and Thoubal district, a team of Kakching district police commandos carried out a search operation in Tejpur Makha Leikai in early hours of Saturday.

During the operation, the team detained one Ashakumar at around 2.10am and recovered one mobile phone, Rs 22,000 in cash and four ATM cards.

On questioning, Ashakumar disclosed that he is a cadre of KCP-Taibangnganba Group and working under the command of one self-styled vice chairman Rajesh alias Malemnganba.

Ashakumar has been handed over to Waikhong PS for further legal action.

Meanwhile, a team of Imphal West district police apprehended two cadres of KCP (People's War Group) on Friday.

The arrested cadres have been identified as Chabungbam Boinao alias Lamnganba (33) S/o (L) Lokendro and Thangjam Abungcha alias Mocha (30) s/o Selungba Meitei of Heibongpokpi Maning Leikai.

According to a police report, the team arrested the duo from near Heibongpokpi Shangri-La Park around 10.50 pm on Friday.

They have been handed over to Lamshang PS for further course of legal action.

On the other hand, a combined team of Kangpokpi district police and CRPF patrolled and conducted area domination and search operation in Khonglong Part-2 and surrounding areas under Nongpok Keithelmanbi PS from 9am to 10.20am on Saturday.

A joint team of Churachandpur district police, 36 AR and 129 Battalion CRPF also carried out search operations in K Mongjang, K Salem and surrounding areas from 8am till 11.35am on Saturday.

In all, 43 houses were searched and 117 people verified.

Meanwhile, two heavy improvised (Pompi) guns were recovered during the search operation.
