Imphal, December 17 2024:
Denouncing the failure to translate into action assurance given for issuance of notification for conduct of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) Students' Union election, enraged students shut down the university's administration block (A-block) on Tuesday.
As DMU authorities failed to keep their words of issuing notification for the union election within December 16, the students declared indefinite shut down until election notification is issued.
Speaking in this regard, one Oinam Hitler Meitei, a DM College of Arts 5th semester student, informed that students' union election for 2023-24 session was not conducted due to the conflict that broke out in May 3, 2023 .
Even though the timing for 2024-25 students' election had already lapsed, there is no sign from the side of authorities concerned for conduct of the election till date.
"Several memorandums demanding conduct of election were submitted to DMU VC, registrar, CM, education minister and commissioner, yet there is no indication for conducting the students' union election," he lamented, while adding that the students are protesting by launching indefinite shut down of the university.
Hitler further cautioned of intensifying the protest in case the authorities failed to fulfil their demand.
