Landslides continue in Twilang area

Even as volunteers of Joint Monitoring Development Committee of IT Road are working exhaustively to remove debris from road left by earlier landslides, landslides continue to occur at several places in Twilang area along Imphal-Tamenglong road due to incessant rain.
At least four landslides occurred on Monday night between Joupi and T Vaichong sub divisional headquarters while three places are likely to face minor landslides if the rain continues for a day or two.
Three private passenger vehicles from Lanka and Lhouthang and four army vehicles from Tamei heading towards Kangpokpi district headquarters have remained stranded near Gelnal village owing to the landslides.
Volunteers of Joint Monitoring Development Committee of IT Road are putting their best efforts to clear four landslides that occurred between Joupi and T Vaichong and informed general public to avoid unnecessary travel as some locations in the area are vulnerable to landslides if rain continues.
The road between Chalwa and T Vaichong which was temporarily closed in the morning by JMDC has been reopened on Tuesday afternoon after clearing the debris.
However, the landslide that occurred at Phoikon village on Tuesday will be cleared by Wednesday, according to a JMDC volunteer.
The debris at Lamlenkon near T Vaichong that inundated a vast section of Imphal-Tamenglong road could not be cleared till Tuesday as the mudslide still continues at the place.
An earth crack also reportedly appeared at Rijaltahar in Irang Part-II causing damage to a residential house belonging to one Gyan Bahadur Adhikari.
The only optional connectivity for the people of Twilang area at present is the PMGSY road from Chawangkining to T Vaichong sub divisional headquarters via Tapon.
However, a few yards of the road near Gorkha Tapon are on the verge of crumbling down owing to the landslides.
