Imphal, June 16 2021:
Noting that there has been increasing number of people who are violating curfew imposed for containing Covid-19 pandemic in the state, Khurai Nandeibam Leikai GP pradhan Yumnam Chitra has opined that the primary reason for increasing number of people defying the prohibitory orders is due to shortage of food supplies in their respective homes.
Speaking on the sidelines of distributing essential items to every family under the jurisdiction of the gram panchayat on Wednesday, Chitra suggested sufficient provision of food items to every family to ensure effective compliance with the containment measures by the public.
It is impossible for the people to follow the curfew if there is no food in their kitchen.
Providing adequate food supply to the people could only ensure effective implementation of the curfew for containing Covid-19, she maintained, while adding that it is time for the government to take up initiatives for effective implementation of the curfew.
She further said that imposing only curfew without providing food supplies will surely make the people to come out to find food for survival.
This will lead to further spread of Covid-19 among the people in the state, Chitra cautioned, while urging the government to look into the matter at the earliest.
Chitra exhorted the people to strictly follow SOP guidelines laid down by the government for containing Covid-19 and to fight the pandemic together.
Meanwhile, under the supervision of Khurai MLA L Susindro, Khurai Chingangbam Leikai Gram Panchayat and Amateur Athletic Association (AAA) along with Imphal East district administration and CMO conducted mass testing cum vaccination programme at AAA community hall.
Speaking during the programme, Khurai Chingang- bam Leikai Gram Panchayat pradhan L Kananbala informed that the mass testing cum vaccination is being carried out to detect the presence of Covid-19 virus and to treat those positive people so as to make Khurai a Covid free constituency.
Moreover, vaccination is the only way to stay safe from the infectious virus, she made it clear, while informing that 100 people were tested, out of which five were found positive for Covid-19 during the testing cum vaccination programme.
