Tumuyon Khullen celebrates N'janghi Hangi fest

Tumuyop Khullen village celebrated the annual feast for the brides locally known as N'Janghi Hangi at the local community hall.
The day marks one of the major festivals of the village where parents invite their newly married daughters for a ceremonial feast.
Maram Union president K Raisong attended as chief guest of the festival while KangpqkpiADC/ADM Laishram Manikanta Singh was present as special guest.
Tumuyon Khullen Baptist Church associate pastor TS Suiny Soul, in his speech, stated that N'janghi hangi is a festival that celebrates the bond of love between married daughters and their paternal families.
It is said that this festival is being celebrated since time immemorial.
The term N'janghi was coined from the mustard seed and Hangi means festival.
The festival is celebrated for three days namely Mahomkatat, which is the arrival day; Jaangtuk, the second day where every visiting lady will get the blessing from their fathers, brothers and feasting back-to-back in and around the village; and the next day is Sraa Kabaa which means chasing out the evil spirits.
Special guest Manikanta said that N'janghi Hangi has many similarities with Nin-gol Chakkouba in the valley that reaffirms the bond of love between the wedded daughters and their brothers.
In his speech, K Raisong stated that among the Maram community, the oldest are in T Khullen.
Maram has its own tradition which signifies their identity, he said while stressing the need for preserving the rich cultural heritage.
Pou Rangkareipa, the senior most citizen of the village, blessed the newly married daughters of the village by performing a prayer.
A special gift was also presented to each of them during the programme.
Maram folk fusion, cultural dance from Tumuyon Khullen Dance troupe, rice pounding show and folk song competition added flavour to the festival.
