Three die in drowning case, one missing

Imphal, October 14 2024: Two youths reportedly fell and got drowned in a pond at Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai under Lamphel police station late Sunday night.

The deceased duo has been identified as Thiyam Rohit (19) s/o Th Sarat of Sega Road Thoudababok Leikai and Salam Dhanaraj (21) s/o Devaraj of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai.

According to police report, both fell into the pond at Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai, recovered lifeless around 11pm Sunday by a team of Lamphel police and handed over to their respective families for conduct of last rites.

Meanwhile, a 12-year-old boy has also been reported missing after he slipped into Imphal River Kongba Irong on Monday around noon.

The boy has been identified as Longjam Kanta son of L Kumar of Kumbi, presently a resident of Kakwa Lamdaibung.

Search and rescue operation continued till late night but his body could not be located.

Earlier, around 11 am, a 44-year-old man got drowned in local community pond at Maharabi Mayai Leikai.

A team of Manipur fire service recovered the lifeless body of the victim, who has been identified as Khumanthem Jeeten, son of late Kh Tomba of Maharabi Awang Leikai.
