Thoubal, May 13 2022:
Even before completion of the construction work on the Atoukhong Mini Dam under Lilong assembly constituency, three regulators of the dam have become faulty, thereby creating artificial flood in the downstream of the dam.
Meanwhile, local people have drawn attention of the department concerned, chief minister N Bi rep Singh in particular, urging them to take immediate action to repair the faulty regulators so as to prevent artificial flood in the area.
A local named Md Sirajud-din Khan informed media persons on Friday that local people are not satisfied with the way the construction work on Atoukhong Mini Dam has been executed as there was huge difference between water level of the river and that of the nearby lake.
Nevertheless, local people did not oppose construction of the dam as foundation stone for the dam was laid by the chief minister and hoped of easing seasonal flood at least to some extent.
The dam is yet to be completed but all the three regulators are not functioning and this led to flash flood in Ngangou Loukol area few days back.
However, the flood water receded after three regulators were pushed down using a heavy machinery (JCB), he said, adding that local people could not wait for the JCB for ensuring functioning of the regulators all the time.
He then urged CM Biren and officials of the department concerned to look into the matter and repair the faulty regulators before the onset of rainy season.
Sirajuddin Khan also suggested holding of a joint meet between local people and'officials of the department for discussing the issue.
