MU-adopted villages get plastic bottle banks

Imphal, March 13 2025:
Manipur University vice-chancellor Prof N Lokendra inaugurated and handed over plastic bottle banks in the university-adopted villages of Langthabal Chingthak, Langthabal Chingkha, and Langthabal Khou-pum on Wednesday.
The initiative, part of the Technology Development Project under SEG Sanitation & Solid Waste Management, aims to make these villages free from plastic bottles through recycling under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) 2.0, coordinated by IIT Delhi, according to a statement issued by the nodal officer of the UBA Cell, MU.
The event, held at Langthabal Khoupum community hall, was attended by nodal officer Prof Ch Ibohal Singh, Manipur State UBA, NIT Manipur regional coordinator Prof P Albinokumar, and Hiyangthang GP caretaker chairperson Loitongbam Herojit among others.
Prof Ch Ibohal highlighted that used plastic bottles would be collected and recycled, generating revenue while keeping the villages clean.
Prof P Albinokumar praised the efforts of UBA Cell, MU, in bringing transformational changes to the villages.
In his speech, Prof N Lokendra emphasised Manipur University's role in promoting social responsibility in its neighbouring areas.
Recalling his visit to Gati Shakti University in Gujarat, he shared insights into plastic recycling and urged the public to use plastic wisely while encouraging youth to engage in recycling efforts.
The event saw participation from various stakeholders, students, and faculty members, marking a significant step towards sustainable waste management in the region, the statement added.
