Imphal, December 12 2024:
Imagi Meira convenor Thokchom Sujata and two others, who are currently in Delhi to attend the protest organised by Women Wing and Youth Wing of Delhi Meetei Co-ordinating Committee against the sexual assault/murder of Meetei women and children by Kuki militants, and also observance of Nupi Lal at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, have been put under 'house arrest' by Delhi Police in their accommodation at Nawada, which is located in the western part of Delhi.
Sujata along with advisor Warepam Premabati and member Ngangom Mamta had gone to Delhi to participate in the protest demonstration and Nupi Lal observance, with Sujata attending as one of the speakers.
On Thursday, as they were preparing to set off for the events, to be held at Jantar Mantar from 2pm to 5pm, a team of Delhi police arrived a little after noon and prohibited them from attending the events by preventing them from leaving their accommodation in Nawada.
In a video clip released on social media, Sujata informed that she and her companions could not participate in the events after Delhi police prevented them from leaving their rooms.
She asked whether suppressing her voice against the on-going violence in the state would help in ensuring justice for missing supervisor Kamalbabu and the six innocent women and children who were brutally murdered in Jiribam.
She lamented the attempt to gag her in a democracy, while questioning how long such voices will be suppressed.
Meanwhile, the Women Wing and Youth Wing of Delhi Meetei Co-ordinating Committee has submitted a memorandum to the PMO and union home minister Amit Shah in this regard.
