Imphal, November 12 2021:
Konsakhul Area Joint Action Committee (KAJAC) on Friday issued an ultimatum to the state government to stop construction activities at the NSU project site until the NSU imbroglio is resolved amicably.
In a release, KAJAC stated that the committee is compelled to issue the ultimatum to the government for its dilly-dallying tactics and indifferent attitude towards the indigenous hill people by forcefully grabbing tribal land for construction of the proposed National Sports University (NSU).
It further stated that the committee has made its best efforts to resolve the NSU impasse in a democratic way by conveying "our grievances through memorandum, representation, petition, etc.
But the state government has failed to respond to our calls for peaceful settlement" .
KAJAC reminded that during the meeting held on February 25,2021 at Secretariat, Imphal under the chair of YAS minister Letpao Haokip in the presence of education minister Rajen Singh, forest & environment minister Awangbow Newmai, MLA H Dingo Singh and MLA Ngamthang Haokip, it was acknowledged in principal that the proposed NSU site belongs to Konsaram (Konsakhul) village under erstwhile Senapati district.
The said meeting assured that a meeting would be convened by the state government within the month of March, 2021 to settle the NSU matter once and for all.
However, the government failed to keep its words and deliberate attempts had been made to keep the NSU issue in cold storage.
The committee then said that it is constrained to issue ultimatum to the state government to stop all kinds of construction activities at NSU project site with immediate effect until the NSU imbroglio is resolved amicably.
It added, "If the government fails to respond to the call of KAJAC for dialogue, the committee will be compelled to intensify any form of democratic agitation.
The government of Manipur shall be held responsible for any untoward incident if occurred during the course of democratic agitation" .
