Meitei Alliance appeals for non-violent protests

The Meitei Alliance expressed solidarity with the students protesting for peace and tranquillity in the state, while urging the government to address their concerns with sensitivity.
The alliance described the students, who have taken to the streets in large numbers, as "the assets of our present and future," and said that they are now forced into activism due to the crisis in the state, which began on May 3, 2023.In a statement, the Alliance said, "It is heart-breaking to see our students set aside their studies to march in defence of our nation".
Parents of these young protestors also deserve recognition for their courage during this turbulent time, it added.
The Meitei Alliance called on the government to recognise "the legitimacy and sensitivity of their demands" to prevent further escalation of violence.
It emphasised the need to ensure the physical and mental well-being of the students, who are playing a pivotal role in the ongoing unrest.
In a direct message to the protesting students, the Meitei Alliance urged them to adhere to non-violence and act within the boundaries of the law to amplify their voices.
"We appeal to these brave young heroes to embrace the strength of non-violence so that their democratic voices resonate even more powerfully and with greater moral foree," the statement added.
