CAU VC highlights ICAR's contributions in agriculture

Imphal, January 10 2025:
Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, vice-chancellor Dr Anupam Mishra lauded the transformative role of ICAR Research Complex (ICAR-RC) in advancing agriculture in the Northeastern region during his valedictory address at the Golden Jubilee celebration and Farmer's Expo of ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya on Friday.
Attending as chief guest on the occasion, he high lighted five decades of contributions and praised the Centre for innovations such as acid-tolerant crop varieties, climate-resilient farming systems, and integrated farming models tailored to regional needs.

Dr Anupam Mishra commended the collaborative efforts of scientists, farmers, and stakeholders in driving agricultural progress and urged young researchers to prioritise innovation to tackle challenges like climate change and food security.
Expressing confidence in ICAR-RC's continued leadership, he envisioned a sustainable and prosperous agricultural future for the region.
Earlier on Thursday, as part of Golden Jubilee celebration marking 50 years of establishing ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region (RC-NEHR), Umiam, Meghalaya, the research centre organised Farmers' Expo-2025 at its complex.
Similar expo were also held at ICAR-NEH Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat along with Kushi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Chandel, Churachandpur, Imphal West, Tamenglong and Ukhrul.
Speaking on the occasion, ICAR-NEH Manipur Centre head Dr Ch Basudhana highlighted the various work being carried out by the research centre for the welfare of the farmer community including increasing their income generation opportunities, introducing new technologies suitable to the state's soil and focus on organic farming.
The event was marked by live streaming of the main event and inauguration of Farmers' Expo-2025 held at ICAR-RC-NEHR, Umiam, which was attended by Union minister of agriculture & farmers welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma, department of agricultural research & education director general Dr V K Mishra and Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar, at the ICAR-NEH Manipur Centre conference hall.
The function was attended by ICAR-NEH Manipur Centre and affiliated KVKs staffers and 210 farmers from various districts.
