'Nungshibi Myanmar', 'Nungshibi Japan' released

Imphal, April 09 2023: Saratchand Thiyam's two travelogues titled 'Nungshibi Myanmar' and 'Nungshibi Japan' were released in a function held at JN Manipur Dance Academy auditorium, here, on Sunday.

The book release function was attended by Langthabal MLA and Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited chairman Karam Shyam as chief guest, Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Imphal president Naoroibam Indramani as president, while social and cultural activist, from Mandalay (Myanmar) Phurailatpam Chandraku-maf Sharma, Herbalife Nutrition executive president's team Konsam Nonikanta, Indo-Myanmar Cultural Association, Manipur president Sapam Bheiga and Indb-Japan Friendship Association president Phurailatpam Nandaku-mar Sharma were present as guests of honour.

Speaking at the function, MLA Karam Shyam pointed out that as the economic condition of the state is deteriorating it is time to act and discuss with experts for chalking up measures for betterment of future instead of simply enjoying on festivities.

Highlighting the need to use mother tongue even if one stays in any part of the world, Karam Shyam said that preservation and protection of mother language is a must.

In addition to it, promoting mother language by diaspora living in Myanmar would be a correct step, he added.

He opined that Sharatchand Thiyam's travelogue 'Nungshibi Greece' has inspired a lot of people and it enlightened the reading public about the Greek civilisation thoroughly.

The newly released travelogues will also inspire travellers, he expressed, while urging the people to be punctual and inculcate the habits and manners of the Japanese people.

It may be mentioned that Saratchand Thiyam received Sahitya Akademi Award in 2006 for his travelogue 'Nungshibi Greece' which is presently a text book prescribed for MA Manipuri in Assam University.

His other book 'Nungshibi Bangladesh' is also a text book for Manipuri subject in Assam University at graduate level.

The copies of the two books are also available at Library of Congress in Washington DC, USA.
