Imphal, April 09 2022:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice-president L Tilotama has urged the government to include clearance of pending honorarium of Anganwadi workers, helpers and Mid-Day Meal workers in its 100-day programme.
Addressing a press meet at Congress Bhawan here on Saturday, Tilotama recalled that ahead of the recent state assembly election, BJP assured of bringing peace and welfare in the state if the party got absolute majority.
Now, BJP has won absolute majority and it is time for the government to translate its assurances into action, she said.
Anganwadi workers and helpers are being deprived of their honorarium for over 10 months now.
Just before the election, CM Biren assured of enhancing their honorarium from the current rate of Rs 3500 to Rs 12,000 or Rs 15,000 like that in other states.
These workers are running their families with the meagre honorarium and depriving it for almost a year is inhumane, she said, while urging the government to clear the pending honorarium and enhance their wages as assured.
Similarly, Mid-Day Meal workers, who get a meagre honorarium of Rs 1000 per month for 10 months in a year, are also being deprived of their wages for 11 months, said the vice president and pointed out that Mid-Day Meal is a centrally sponsored scheme and the Centre had released Rs 15 crore in 2020-21 and Rs 10 crore in 2021-22 for the scheme.
